Easiest Flu Shots ever!

I took Landon and Laurel to get a flu shot a couple of days ago. Every time we pull up at the pediatrician's office, I get the question.."Do we have to get a shot?" Most of the time, the answer is "No" because it is rare that we have to go to the doctor anymore except for yearly check-ups. Lately though, my answer has been "yes"...Laurel started kindergarten, and needed one last shot to complete her immunization chart; and a few days ago they needed the flu shot. I was waiting for the question when we pulled into the parking lot, and had been rehearsing my answer in my head. Of course, they both asked, and when I looked in the rear view mirror the sheer horror on Laurel's face nearly made me cry.

I tried to explain that if they didn't get the shot and got the flu, they would get really sick. I said that the sickness would last a week or more...a lot longer than the minute or two that it would hurt from the shot.

I convinced them to go in with me; although reluctantly.

When the nurse called us back, Laurel immediately tensed up and starting whining. I really had no patience because no one had touched her yet, and she was whining!!! When we got to the room, the nurse asked if I wanted them to have the vaccine or the flu inhaler.

Really? They can just get the inhaler? Are you serious? She said that as long as they are not allergic to eggs and do not have asthma they would be good candidates for the inhaler. Yippee!!! No crying.

So she shot some stuff up their noses. No tears. Hopefully flu free this year.

As we were walking out, a little boy about Laurel's age was crying and being dragged by his mom down the hall. Laurel walked in front of him and said, "Don't cry, it doesn't hurt. It just tastes really bad." :)

As I always say, late is better than never!
This Halloween gave us Iowans the best weather that we have seen on October 31st since the Fulcher's have been here. It was a beautiful, sunny day at 70 degrees. Kyle actually went Trick-or-Treating in shorts! (Common attire for MS on Halloween, but not Iowa.)
We attended several Halloween parties this year. We really got a lot of wear out of this year's costumes.

As you can see, they are getting so big!

Early Mornings, Tooth Fairy...Again, Small Beds....

This morning Landon came in (at 5:50am!!)to announce that he had lost another tooth (his 4th!). Those of you who know me, know that I am definitely not a morning person. My dad used to tell people that it was no use trying to talk to me before 10am....that may be a little extreme, but you get the point. :) Anyway,I sat up in time to discourage him from turning on the lights to show us his treasure, and asked him to set it on my nightstand so that we could look at it at a more reasonable hour. He agreed and piled into our bed...where Laurel had already decided to join us a few hours earlier. Laying there squished between Laurel and Landon, I began to wonder if they made a bed bigger than a King?? And why was I the only one interested in going back to sleep? I finally kicked Kyle and Laurel out for talking, and Landon out for not staying still. And was finally able to go back to sleep!

On a different note, we hope POP (my dad) is feeling better! He has pneumonia, and we are hoping he that he gets better in time for their trip up here in November.

Fall 2008

This Fall, we have pretty much been going to school (or work) and playing soccer. Landon is on a traveling soccer team this fall the BSA FIRE, and Laurel is playing soccer through the Bettendorf Park Board. Hopefully, I will post some new pics soon, but for now I thought I would share a new website for Landon's soccer team: www.bsafire.com

Hope everyone is doing well! It turned cold this week..highs in the 60's. So we are trying to stay warm..already!
