It's not Fair

Well, another school year has started. I have got a Second Grader...doesn't that sound official? And a Kindergartner. It is really not fair...the time is just slipping by. Landon and Laurel both said that they loved their first day of school. Landon knew all of his classmates except for one little boy, and he said that he really likes his teacher.

Laurel woke me up at 6:15am this morning to have me help her zip her dress that she had picked out the night before. (keep in mind that school starts at 8:35am) They rode the bus, I wanted to drive them, but Laurel has been watching Landon get on that bus for 2 years now, and she was determined that she was going ride that bus this morning.
She said that she had a really good time on her first day and that she made a new friend, but couldn't remember her name! Landon walked her to her classroom this morning...he is such a good Big Brother!

I have been in tears all week. Actually yesterday was worse than today. I did have a break down once I got into the car to drive to work, but I had to get over it fast since it only takes me 3 minutes to get there...

Landon still has his two front teeth, I will keep you posted on that too.

Teeth and Ears!

Well, Landon FINALLY has 2 loose teeth! He is the last one of his friends to lose a tooth. In fact most of them, if not ALL, have lost several. Every time we go to the dentist, I ask if this is normal, and she has said that they will eventually come out, and that the later it happened, the better his adult teeth will look. I hope she is right. Anyway, he hasn't actually lost one yet, but his two top front teeth are definitely loose. And he is trying to hurry the process by wiggling them all day long. I will post pictures when the event actually happens. Pop told him that the Tooth Fairy will leave him $50 for the first tooth so he is very excited! I will have to let the POP Fairy know in advance so that maybe he can make arrangements with Western Union! :)

And...I finally broke down and let Laurel get her Ears pierced last week. She has been asking since her little friend, Addy, got hers pierced last school year. And even more after Norah got hers pierced. And I must have told her that I got mine pierced when I was 5, and that was a big deal to her. And when she was in MS in July, she nearly had Nonna talked into letting her get it done. Luckily they didn't because I would have been sad if I had missed it.
Anyway, she wasn't even nervous. She didn't even cry..or flinch for that matter. She got to pick out her new earrings...Pink Daisies. I was very proud of her for not crying.

Zoo Sleepover

Well, on Saturday, as if Landon didn't already have a great birthday already, we went to the zoo...for a sleepover!
My friend Sarah invited a group of her family and friends to a party at the zoo, sleepover included!
We arrived at the zoo at 5:30pm to set up our tents. Then we were treated to a meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, bbq chicken, baked beans and pasta salad. After dinner we got to take a tour of the zoo (after hours)! First, we rode the train. Next, we were met by the Zoo Director, Tom Stalfe, who many of you would recognize from the Today Show , Good Morning America, and David Letterman Show. Anytime you see Jack Hannah on any of these shows, you will see this guy in the background handing the animals to Mr. Hannah. Tom took us on a personal tour of the zoo stopping and talking about each of the animals there. We were able to feed the elephants and the giraffes as well as other animals at the petting zoo. We also rode the carousel. We even got to put the giraffes to bed! At the end of the tour, he brought in several animals for us to see and touch. Be sure to look at the picture of Kyle holding the....(I won't ruin it for you.) We had such a fun, educational evening.
If that wasn't enough, we then roasted marshmallows for smores, and Banana Boats! Yummy! You have got to get the recipe for these banana boats! They were quite tasty!
Then it was off to our tents! Kyle and I didn't sleep a wink, but it was still quite an experience. I don't think Landon had much trouble at all sleeping! The kids had a blast! Thanks again Sarah!
By the way, Sarah's grandfather is John Lujack. He played football at Notre Dame, and won the Heisman Trophy in 1947 (kyle has seen it!). He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1948 in the first round. I could go on and on about his records and Pro bowls, etc, but I know you can google him!! Anyway, there are several pics included of the kids with him since he was one of the guests for the zoo party. And No, he didn't sleep over, but he did ride the carousel at age 83!

Happy Birthday Landon

Saturday, Landon turned 7 years old! I know I say this all of the time, but it truly is hard to believe that my children are getting so big! Nonna and Pop called to tell him Happy Birthday, and while he was on the phone with mom, he asked her if she remembered what she was doing on that day 7 years ago. It was such a sweet little question, and it made me think about what I was doing then. :) He has been a sweet little boy even from the beginning! I remember Kyle's reaction when the doctor said, "it's a boy!" I knew in my heart the whole time it was a boy, but it was fun to wait to hear the knews. The scariest part was not knowing what was happening next and having to see him hooked up to those tubes and oxygen. But he is now a very healthy, happy, sweet little 7yr old boy.

For his birthday, we took a few kids to the movie theatre to see the new Disney movie Wall-e. They had a good time. We had a party room for the cake. Then they got to go up and tour the projection booth before we went in to see the movie. Enjoy the pics.
