First Day of School

And the verdict is...."The cafeteria is great!"

Landon and Laurel were really excited to start their first day of school. I was more worried than they were. We are about 2/10 of a mile from the school so we have been walking to and from. They are enjoying that, and so I am I. They tell me all about their day basically by the time we reach the front door of the the house.

They are both taking Spanish this year. We had gone to the Library a few weeks before and rented some DVDs and books on speaking Spanish because I was worried that they might be a little behind since Landon had not had it before. Laurel did have it once a week in her preschool...but probably not enough. We worked on simple things like numbers, colors, and greetings, ect. I hope that will help.

They seem to be fitting in nicely. They have already made several friends. One thing about the new school that they cannot stop talking about is LUNCH! Every day there are 4 main course items that they can choose from, and then you can pick your side too. And there is a fruit bar! They are just amazed that you can pick what you want to eat! Yesterday's choices were: 1. Whole grain pasta with Marinara sauce 2. Deli Sub 3. Mini Corn dogs or 4. Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. And the sides included: 1. Fresh vegetables with dip 2. Steamed cauliflower with cheese sauce 3. Fresh fruit or 4. Sherbet Cup. It is literally like a buffet! Which if I haven't mentioned before LAUREL LOVES BUFFETS. She is not our big eater, but she likes that she can get it fast (imagine that!) and that she can pick what she wants. And Landon loves it because you can get SECONDS! (I said "REALLY?", and yes, it is true...for Seconds, you go through the line again and can get a second entree for an additional $1.) Crazy! They cannot stop talking about that cafeteria! So don't be surprised if you call, and you get to hear about it.

I mean you would think that I don't feed them or something. The bad thing is that with 4 choices everyday I am bound to goof and make something that they may have had at lunch for dinner...as in the case last night when I made spaghetti for dinner. Oh well.

First weeks in KC

We have been in Kansas City for almost 3 weeks, and most of the first week here was unpacking. But we have made time for some fun too. We have taken the kids to a Royals baseball game and Chiefs game.

At the Royals game, there were lots of pre-game activities for the kids like batting, practicing your pitching skills, testing your base-running speed, and even mini golf. Then it came time for the game, and while Landon was interested in what was actually going on during the game, Laurel was more interested in hanging on me, asking when we could get popcorn, and what we were doing next! All in all, we had a great time even though the Royals lost.

For our anniversary, I got Kyle tickets for the 1st preseason game for the Chiefs against the Houston Texans. Chris Balaski, a friend from HS and who lives just north of KC, came too. We had a great time tailgating before the game. But as soon as we got into the stadium and into our seats....the rain started. It did not let up until Sunday morning! Unfortunately, we didn't see much of the game. We left after half-time. And Laurel was fine with that! :) Maybe we will try again! Despite the lack of pictures of me...I really was there!

I am still a Saints fan...even though some members have become Chiefs fans... :)

Summer Pictures

So I took a bit of a break this summer. We really had a lot going on this summer. In addition to all of the kids normal activities: soccer, baseball, tennis, golf, and swim team, we were selling a house, buying a house, packing, had a visit from MeMe and Big Pop, went to MS for a week, registering for a new school, getting physicals and immunization records for the new school, signing up for fall activities in Overland Park, KS, and oh yeah...planning for a baby! Whew! I decided early in the summer that I couldn't keep up with the blog so I just took a hiatus. :)

Worst Blogger

I am officially the worst blogger, but I intend to do a couple of posts today since have a little time on my hands today (I am retired! and Landon and Laurel are with MeMe and Big Pop camping).

So I just said... I am retired! Although, frankly, today is the first day that I feel retired. The fist week I was officially retired, I was in KC house hunting. We found a house! That week was followed by Landon and Laurel's last week of school...field trips, parties and all. In addition to my dentist and doctor appointments already scheduled hoping to get that in before school was out, regular baseball and soccer games, and rehearsals for Laurel's recital....It was a busy week!!!

Kyle's parents came in town for Laurel's recital and to see Landon's last few baseball and soccer games. The kids have been camping with them between all of their commitments.
I will add posts with baseball, recital, and camping photos later today... OH and maybe a few pics of our new house in KC!

Way to go BSA FIRE!

Soccer and baseball are in full force. For the Memorial Day weekend, Landon's soccer team played in their 3rd tournament of the season. The first tournament, they came in 5th. The second tournament, they came in 2nd. And this weekend for the 3rd tournament, they were the Champs! I have to say, that I never imagined how excited I would get watching soccer, but it is so much fun to watch. Club soccer is a bit different that the recreational leagues he was in before. The tournaments are so much fun.
